About Us

We are a college preparatory, PS-12 school where technology complements classical tradition.

Located in scenic Rappahannock County and serving students from nine other counties-- Culpeper, Clarke, Fauquier, Frederick, Madison, Page, Prince William, Shenandoah and Warren-- just miles from Shenandoah National Park and ninety minutes from downtown Washington DC, Wakefield Country Day School (WCDS) is a chalet in the midst of rolling hills –a supportive and safe environment whose curriculum emphasizes academic rigor within a classical tradition.

Kindergarten children visit a local senior center for an afternoon of friendship, conversation, and Bingo.
In addition to inspiring a love for books, our Reading Buddies program strengthens bonds between older and younger children.
Our upper school prom is a special occasion for all students grades 9-12.
Children of all ages serve others in the community. Some classes "adopt" a non-profit, and here our 5th graders are walking pups at the local shelter.
Our WCDS grads return to school each January to answer some important questions about their first impressions of college and share some great stories along the way.
Grandparents Day is one of our favorite yearly events! Our special guests visit classrooms, attend a special Assembly, and dine in our school lunch room.
Middle and upper school students travel to state and national Latin Conventions to compete in subject tests and art competitions. Some of our students also serve as Classical League officers.
The 4th Grade Wax Museum brings important characters from history to life!
Third grade students experience the Middle Ages through role playing and learning to construct a castle after researching the time period.
Our annual golf tournament is a fun time for families, alumni, and friends to come together and raise money for the school
