SUMMARY:Cedar Mountain Battlefield Living History
DESCRIPTION:Cedar Mountain Battlefield's annual living history event will be held on the battlefield from\n\n9 am   5 pm on Saturday\, August 6\, and 9 am   1 pm on Sunday\, August 7. Visitors of all ages\n\nare welcome to enjoy a variety of activities that will bring to life the experiences of soldiers and\n\ncivilians impacted by the battle.\n\n\n\nThis year marks the 160th anniversary of the battle\, and the event has expanded to include a battle reenactment each day.\n\n\n\n"We're grateful to the more than 300 reenactors who are supporting this exciting feature for\n\nthe 160th anniversary\," said Diane Logan\, president of Friends of Cedar Mountain Battlefield. "With participating infantry and three artillery groups\, visitors can expect the battle\n\nreenactments to be thrilling."\n\n\n\nAdditional highlights:\n\n? The 73rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Band will perform Civil War-era music throughout the\n\nweekend.\n\n? A combined arms demonstration of Civil War weaponry and school of the soldier. The school of\n\nthe soldier offers the opportunity to participate in basic drill and instruction\; work with the\n\ninfantry and learn how to handle a musket\; learn how to march\, drill and fight\; and even serve\n\non a gun crew.\n\n? Military encampments representing Union and Confederate forces will be open for visitors to\n\nlearn about the life of a soldier. \n\n? Living historians will share the stories of civilians impacted by the war.\n\n? Hands-on learning experiences for kids include trying on soldiers' uniforms and equipment and\n\nperiod civilian attire. Artifacts to explore include shell fragments\, bullets and old maps and\n\nphotographs of Cedar Mountain.\n\n? Photographer Robert Szabo\, nationally recognized for his expertise with 19th century wet plate collodion photography\, will demonstrate how to prepare glass plates for use in his old-style\n\ncamera and develop glass plate negatives on site. During the Civil War\, Culpeper County was\n\none of the conflict's most photographed settings.\n\n? Visitors will see demonstrations of signal flags and learn how messages were coded\, sent and\n\ndecoded. Another station will offer the opportunity to learn about the role of cavalry in the battle.\n\n?
