Speak Up! Effectively Share Your Story in Any Situation
Even if you’re okay with planned presentations (with lots of practice!), when asked to spontaneously speak on your feet or requested to “say a few words” about your organization, sometimes your mind seems to go blank. What might have been a golden opportunity to make a favorable impression can pass if you can’t speak up with a compelling message. Join speaking coach Norma Thatcher in learning how to overcome anxiety and nervousness related to speaking in public and receive practical tips on becoming a “practiced” impromptu speaker. This workshop is perfect for any member of your organization that speaks in public for your nonprofit’s mission, or someone who would like to improve his or hers public speaking skills. Participants will learn: -Science-based information on the importance of proper breathing related to speaking -Ideas to calm and center ourselves -Patterns that can let us quickly respond to off-the-cuff questions -Cues to focus on delivering great answers to unexpected questions Part of our experience together includes audience participation. We’re talking about speaking up, after all. Research shows that participation helps us learn more effectively. Join us, have fun, and learn how to get your message across. Program attendance is complimentary for board, staff, and volunteers of organizations operating within the PATH service area (Fauquier, Rappahannock, and northern Culpeper counties). For participants from other organizations, a $25 charge applies.
