Senior Business Analyst

The Association of Social Work Boards provides support and services to the social work regulatory community to advance safe, competent, and ethical practices to strengthen public protection.

The Senior Business Analyst at ASWB serves as a strategic partner between business stakeholders, information technology, and external vendors, ensuring that technology solutions effectively support ASWB's mission and regulatory responsibilities. Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, this role leads complex business analysis efforts, translates business needs into clear and actionable requirements, and guides solutions from concept through delivery across ASWB's mission-critical systems.

The Senior Business Analyst works extensively with platforms including ASWBCentral, the approved continuing education (ACE) platform, re:Members (AMS/CRM), and related data and reporting tools. The position plays a key role in evaluating business needs and determining whether solutions can be met through existing system capabilities, configuration, enhancement, or new development.

Business Analysis & Requirements Leadership

  • Serve as a senior liaison between business units, IT staff, and external vendors to ensure shared understanding of objectives, constraints, and tradeoffs
  • Lead complex requirements gathering through interviews, workshops, facilitation sessions, and analysis of current- and future-state business processes
  • Analyze business needs and determine whether requirements can be satisfied through existing commercial software, system configuration, enhancement of internally developed systems, or custom development
  • Produce and oversee high-quality documentation including business requirements, functional specifications, workflows, and acceptance criteria
  • Establish and promote best practices for business analysis, documentation, and stakeholder engagement

Process Improvement & Solution Design

  • Evaluate end-to-end business processes and supporting systems to identify opportunities for simplification, standardization, automation, and improved data quality
  • Partner with stakeholders and technical teams to design practical, scalable solutions that balance business needs, technical constraints, and long-term sustainability
  • Facilitate the development and ongoing maintenance of standard operating procedures and supporting documentation
  • Stay informed on industry standards, trends, and best practices relevant to associations, credentialing organizations, and regulated environments

Testing, Training & Adoption

  • Lead collaboration with business users and technical teams to define testing strategies, test plans, and test cases
  • Coordinate and/or perform functional testing to ensure solutions meet documented requirements prior to deployment
  • Oversee user acceptance testing and ensure appropriate business sign-off
  • Develop, provide, or coordinate system training, job aids, and educational materials to support adoption and long-term usability

Project & Work Management Support

  • Provide senior-level support to projects and enhancement efforts, including scope definition, dependency management, prioritization, and risk identification
  • Coordinate and manage requirements and work items within tools such as Azure DevOps or Jira, ensuring traceability from requirements through delivery
  • Contribute to release planning, change communication, and stakeholder updates related to system enhancements and deployments

Data & Reporting Support

  • Use SQL and reporting/query tools to validate data, troubleshoot complex issues, and support reporting and analytics initiatives
  • Partner with business leaders to define key metrics, dashboards, and reports to support operational visibility and decision-making

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS (education and experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience analyzing, documenting, and leading business requirements and systems analysis in a business or technology environment
  • Experience working in or supporting associations, professional societies, licensing boards, certification bodies, or other regulated organizations strongly preferred
  • Experience with CRM/AMS platforms, workflow systems, reporting tools, and custom business applications
  • Working knowledge of SQL and reporting/query tools preferred

Reliable high-speed internet is required for remote work. Occasional travel (up to several times per year) may be required to support association meetings or business needs.
