Supervisor’s Title: SAFE Board of Directors

Salary: $69,000-$75,000 Commensurate with Experience

Hours: 9–5pm M-F (Some Evening/Weekend work will be required)

General Statement of Responsibilities

The Executive Director leads SAFE in partnership with the Board of Directors, ensuring the effective, efficient, and appropriate delivery of services to all clients. Key responsibilities include securing and expanding funding sources, increasing community awareness of family and sexual violence issues, and overseeing agency operations.

This position reports to the President of the Board. The ideal candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, and a high level of confidentiality. A minimum of 40 hours of continuing education is required annually.

Major Duties:

1. Oversee the Administration: The Executive Director oversees agency administration, ensuring Board policies and best practices are followed while effectively managing programs and services. Responsibilities include developing program plans, managing the budget with the bookkeeper, and assisting with staff orientation, supervision, evaluation, and ongoing training. The Director collaborates with the Shelter and Community Outreach Coordinators to meet grant requirements and leads the creation of agency materials such as brochures and newsletters. Additionally, the role involves setting short-term (one-year) agency goals aligned with grant and organizational priorities.

2. Direct Services: Provide crisis intervention and support to SAFE clients as needed, both in person and via the 24-hour hotline or TTY service.

3. On-Call: The Executive Director will provide emergency hotline coverage and deliver essential client services when SAFE staff or volunteers are unavailable.

4. Secure Funding for the Organization: Oversee grant administration, including writing proposals and preparing quarterly narrative, statistical, and financial reports. Conduct research on potential funding opportunities, develop proposals for new and ongoing funding, and maintain strong relationships with all current grant funding sources.

5. Fiscal Management: Collaborate with the Finance Department to prepare the annual SAFE budget and present it to the Board for approval. Oversee and authorize purchases and expenditure within the approved budget, while keeping the Board informed of financial activity. Stay informed of potential funding opportunities—federal, state, local, and private—and take initiative to pursue new sources as needed.

6. Support Board of Directors: Support the Board of Directors by attending meetings, providing timely information and monthly Director’s reports, and supplying additional educational materials as needed. Ensure the Board has the necessary information to make informed decisions and establish policies. Represent SAFE by entering contracts on behalf of the Board. Assist in cultivating agency donors through personal outreach, correspondence, public speaking, media interviews, and community events as requested.

7. Community and Public Relations: The Executive Director serves as the primary spokesperson for the agency, promoting positive public relations locally, statewide, and nationally as needed. This role represents SAFE in all interactions with organizations, individuals, and the general public at all levels. The Director is also encouraged to actively participate in VSDVAA (Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance).

Job Requirements:

· Minimum of five years of management experience in a nonprofit agency, community-based organization, or human services setting.

· Bachelor’s degree required; additional management experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

· Proven skills in budgeting, fiscal management, grant writing, fundraising, donor solicitation, and program development.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Strong organizational and time management abilities.

· Knowledge of personnel development principles, including experience supervising paid staff and volunteers.

· Demonstrated public speaking and community relations experience.

· Understanding of the dynamics and issues related to domestic and sexual violence.

· Strong problem-solving skills.

· Experience in victim services and advocacy.

The Director is supervised by the Board of Directors President. The Director shall be reviewed by the SAFE Board President, Annually.

Pay: $69,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
