AGING TOGETHER ADDS A LITTLE “ART” TO THE ART OF AGING LIFESTYLE & WELLNESS EXPO THIS YEAR IN CULPEPER
Free Expo features VMFA on the Road, health resources, and more on October 15
Staying healthy, independent, and connected as we age is something worth planning for - and for 15 years Aging Together’s annual Art of Aging Lifestyle & Wellness Expo has made that planning both accessible and enjoyable.
The free community event returns to Culpeper on October 15, bringing together resources, activities, and experts to help older adults, families, and caregivers make informed choices about the years ahead.
Thanks to Aging Together’s partnership with the Virginia Senior Medicare Patrol, a special highlight this year is the participation of VMFA on the Road, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts’ traveling art museum. The state-of-the-art, climate-controlled Art Mobile features Wi-Fi and interactive components that bring the museum experience directly into communities across Virginia. Its current exhibition, Virginia as America: Navigating Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, runs through December and will make a stop at Aging Together’s Expo.
“Having the Art Mobile at the Culpeper Expo highlights another important aspect of community gathering - helping to reduce social isolation through activities that engage and connect people,” says Ellen Phipps, Executive Director of Aging Together. “We’re delighted that VMFA on the Road is making the Expo a stop in its travels across the state.”
Each year, hundreds of people from Aging Together’s five-county region attend the Expo to explore ways to support their health, independence, and quality of life. The event brings a wide range of resources with over 50 exhibitors together in one convenient location, including information on healthy aging, mental health and stress management, physical activity, transportation, food access, vaccines, and health assessments.
Additional attractions at this year’s Culpeper Expo include a shred truck also sponsored by the Virginia Senior Medicare Patrol, offering attendees an opportunity to safely destroy important documents and help protect against fraud and identity theft. The Culpeper Police Department will demonstrate its new mobile command vehicle. And Safeway will provide an immunization clinic at the Expo where participants can go directly to receive their vaccinations, or they can register ahead on Aging Together’s website. WJMA 103.1 will be doing a live broadcast for the first two hours. Free coffee and donuts offered by Home Instead will be available until they’re gone!
“The goal is to help people stay in their communities and remain independent for as long as possible,” says Phipps. “Sometimes that means reaching out for assistance or gathering information before a crisis occurs. The Expo offers a convenient way to find useful information now - or resources that may be needed down the road.”
The Art of Aging Lifestyle & Wellness Expo Culpeper is free and open to everyone in the region. Attendees do not need to live in Culpeper County, and no registration is required.
“This is for everyone”, Phipps adds, “and it will be a fun event!”.
