Town of Culpeper Celebrates National Travel and Tourism Week with New Community Mural at Yowell Meadow Park

 CULPEPER, VA — (5/7/2026)— The Town of Culpeper is proud to join destinations across the country in celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW), May 3 to 9, 2026, recognizing the powerful role travel, tourism, arts, and culture play in strengthening communities and local economies.

 As part of this year’s celebration, Culpeper Tourism partnered with local artist Kat Tines (@kat.tines) to create a vibrant new mural at Yowell Meadow Park's skate park, transforming the popular recreational space into a colorful reflection of Culpeper’s creativity, energy, and community spirit.

 “This mural is a celebration of Culpeper’s identity and the people who make this community so special,” said Paige Read, Director of Culpeper Tourism and Town Economic Development. “Tourism is not only about attracting visitors. It is about investing in the places we share, supporting local artists and businesses, and creating experiences that inspire pride among residents and lasting memories for visitors.”

 Established in 1983, National Travel and Tourism Week highlights the importance of the travel industry to communities across America. This year’s theme, “Postmarked: Essential,” recognizes travel as a foundational driver of economic growth, cultural connection, and community vitality.

 Tourism continues to play a major role in Culpeper’s economy and quality of life. According to the 2024 Economic Impact Report released by the Virginia Tourism Corporation, direct visitor spending in Culpeper reached $77.9 million in 2024, contributing to a total tourism economic impact of $121.6 million. Tourism also supported 764 local jobs and generated $5.8 million in local and state tax revenue.

 Beyond its economic impact, tourism helps sustain the arts, preserve historic character, support small businesses, and create vibrant gathering spaces that benefit both residents and visitors alike. Projects like the mural at Yowell Meadow Park's skate park demonstrate how tourism and placemaking initiatives can work together to strengthen community culture and foster civic pride.

 As Virginia continues preparations for milestone events surrounding America’s 250th anniversary and the VA250 commemoration, Culpeper remains a destination where history, creativity, outdoor recreation, and authentic small town hospitality come together to create meaningful visitor experiences.
